With a total floor area over 10,000 metres squared, these units use a mixture of natural and mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning and passive cooling, and fully electric heating, including a state-of-the-art VRF system. Meadows and Ross were appointed to support the project via the provision of Level 5 SBEM Calculations and Energy Performance Certificates. We were also appointed to produce a thermal comfort study for each unit to BREEAM UK New Construction 2018 Hea 04 standards, which included analysis under current and future projected climate change scenarios. Dynamic Simulation Modelling was used for all of these tasks, a model image can be found below.</image:caption>

This is also the most sustainable campus F1 has ever seen. The fabric of the building has been designed to operate smarter, reducing energy usage wherever possible: it features increased insulation, an abundance of natural lighting and is served by air-sourced heat pumps. This contributes to a carbon footprint reduction of 278 tonnes per year. More than 72,000 square metres of wild meadow and the planting of 1,500 trees have enhanced the surrounding natural environment. Rainwater capture and extensive state-of-the-art monitoring systems mean we minimise water usage on site. Twenty per cent of the facility’s reduced energy needs will be met by solar panels on site. Even the forklifts will be electric.</image:caption>

Cannock Specialist Care Centre is a real change from the standard care homes in the area with very generous bedroom suites that are over twice the size of other purpose-built care homes each with their own seating area, shower and fitted wardrobes.</image:caption>

Dynamic Simulation Modelling was used to determine energy efficiency and carbon performance, which culminated in the lodgment of the level 5 EPC for the building. The site is located in the St Budeaux area of Plymouth in Devon, next to the Tamar river. Its isolated position meant that, historically, the estate was known by locals as the “forgotten island”. Meadows and Ross supported the works via the provision of thermal bridging calculations to improve fabric performance and reduce energy costs. A thermal modelling image from the project is provided below as an example of our work. Both 2D and 3D calculations were completed.</image:caption>

It will be a new community hub – a setting off point for exploring the nearby open spaces of the award winning Lee Valley Regional Park. Lee Valley Ice Centre will offer public skating sessions, where everyone can come and try out skating, sessions from top class coaches, ice dancing, synchronised skating, ice hockey and ice discos, as well as community engagement activities.
